VIOLENT STORMS
NUMBER OF DEATHS IN ENGLAND
EXTRAORDINARY SCENE AT BOSTOCK'S. (Received Last Night, 9.50 o'clock.) LONDON, June 1. A spell of tropical heat culminated in a series of violent thunderstorms in the Home Country. The streets in many places were flooded. The .crowd'returning from the &p~ som races was in, a sorry plight. Two policemen and three other racegoers were killed by lightning. Seven deaths are reported already, and many others have been seriously injured by the lightning. Two city churches were struck by lightning. The underground railway was flooded by the system of short-cir-cuited waiter. . An extraordinary scene occurred ai Bostock's "Jungle" at the Whate City. The thunder infuriated the pumas, which attacked and mauled , their lady trainer. The pavilion was crowded with people, who were escaping the torren*tial rain. Great excitement prevailed among (the crowd. The trainer was rescued by the attendants using crowbars.
