THE FARMERS' UNION.

POSTAL AND TELEPHONE FACILITIES. At the Wellington. Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union at Woodville, Mr H. Morrison plasterton) moved— That the Government be asked, to subsidise the erection of rural telephone lines, and the cost of administering rural telephones. Mr Nevins (Tinui) seconded the motion, which was carried, after many of the delegates (had aired their grievances, and complained that settlers should get more assistance. It was further agreed that a reduction should bo made to telephone subscribers in cases where more than one .subscriber is using the same wire. Mr W. J. Moore (Makuni) moved a motion affirming that in inland mail contracts telegrams .should bo included in, the term letters. The regulations showed that a telegram was not a letter. A mail contractor could absolutely refuse to take a telegram from a postmistress. The motion was duly seconded and carried. It was further affirmed that where possible settlers should get the benefit of a rural delivery, and that the price of private bags should be reduced where they were delivered only twice a week.
