HOLIDAY REGULATIONS EXPLAINED.
A»s there appears to be some misapprehension generally in regard to the observance of this holiday w ; t'i respect to the Shops and Offices Act and Factories Act, Mr I. lieorgeson, (local Inspector of Factories, points out that in regard to "he 'Factorits. Act, under section 35 evory b"y .under eighteen years of age, and every woman working in a factory must be given the Sovereign's Birthday as a holiday, and in addition (when it is on Thursday) the usual weekly halfholiday. This .does not in any way apply to the Shops and Offices Act, where the holiday "to ail assistants and the closing of islhops on the Sovereigns Birthday may be observed in lieu of the ordinary statutory halfholiday. In regard to awards and 'industrial agreements, the provisions of industrial agreements relating to the Sovereign's Birthday must of course v be complied with by the parties to the same.
