THE SUCCESS DREDGE.
MANAGER'S REPORT
The following report of the "Success" dredge, dated May 18th, from the dredgemaster in charge of the dredge, should be of interest to Masterton shareholders: — "I beg .to report a, good run,of 123 hours, return being 14ozs 9dwts. The gold' was a coarse sample. Thfe deep ground in the creek, was a fair disaster this week,' bejng'pug for. a, depth of 30ft. Oh the other end the junction of the swamp and solid ground; was also all mud, but we have got through it and in about 30 feet there will he practically ncr-stripping. One of Mr Hessey's bore holes alongside the creek Was dredged up, and he just missed the pug 30 feet thick by about 18 feet on the right hand side. We will be out of'all pug trouble in a week.' The other end will take some time yet to get throught the swamp, but it may improve as soon as the bottom starts to rise. »I am satisfied that this ground will be irregular till we get through all the swamp." ASSAYER'S REPORT. The following is the report of the assayer of the gold won by the dredge as forwarded by the manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., Hokitika:— "I enclose ticket showing result of melting and assay of gold lodged to the 4th inst. You will'see that the melting of gold is again unusually satisfactory, showing a loss of only Tdwts on 141ozs 7dwts treated. I have never seen gold so well retorted. I am glad to say that tho assay value too has improved, and, as you will see from tho ticket, we are on tb' r occasions able to pav you 79? 9d for it after mpltine—the "et re.«n't bei?'F that there is a surplus of £lB 0s 2d to nav tbe Omnanv. 'which we are placing to credit to-day as. per slip enclosed.
