BEER AND ATHLETICS.

A REJOINDER.

"Hookey One" writes to the x Age

—"Your correspondent, wiho talks of young men returning from the other end of the Vialley in a state of intoxication, must refer to tihe 'droppers,' and not to athletes. I have been going to Carterton with an athletic team, and although: the temptations to celebrate a win or drowoi a loss may be very great, I have not seen anything in the .shape of intoxication. It is true that tire boys, or some of them, may have a glass or two; but even footballers' and hookey players sometimes get thirsty!"
