THE LABOUR PARTY.
The Labour Party in New Zealand appears to have resolved upon complete severance from tlie present Government. Speaking at a meeting in Dunedin last week, Mr A. Barclay stated that the Labour Party were embarking somewiliat early on their campaign, but they wanted to educate the people, and particularly those who had hitherto taken no active interest in the struggle. They were getting behind in the race out here, and nothing would vitalise them more than, the formation of a Labour party. They did not require a party with a complete majority. So long as they had even a dozen .members in the House for a. start they could exercise a powerful influence on the actions and policy of the Government. He could not see how anyone who took on unprejxidiced view of the imatter could say that the Labour party •'were .wrong in the step they were taking to try to obtain power. The speaker concluded by urging his hearers to rouse themselves. If they were in earnest they would succeed, and succeed before vea'y long.
