HE LEAVES FOR SPAIN
(Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) MEXICO CITY, May 27. Ex-President Diaz, who is feeble with illness, Has left for Vera Cruz. It is his intention to catch a boat for Spain, where he will make his home. President Madero has issued a manifesto, in which he expresses the hope that peace will reign under his Presidency. General D. Porfirio Diaz, who resigned the Presidency of Mexico last week, is eighty-three years of age. He has govferned tho country ever since 1875, when he assumed affairs as a military dictator. Since 1876 he has been the legally-elected President, except for the period 1880-84. CHIEFS OF POLICE KILLED. HUNDREDS STARVING. A STATE OF CHAOS. (Received This Morning, 12.30 o'clock.) MEXICO CITY, May 27. Bands of insurgents, not being aware that peace has been arranged, killed several of the Chiefs of Police in the interior. Hundreds, on the verge of starvation, have been looting and burning stores. The whole country is in a state of chaos.
A number of Federal troops were slain and Government officials sent to gaol after towns had been surrendered to the rebels. :•
