THOUSANDS OF HANDS AFFECTED. Received This Morning, 12.10 o'clock BRISBANE, May 26. The gas strike is at an acute stage owing to a failure of the supply. Thousands of hands employed in factory asitabliishimionts relying on gas power, are unable to resumie work. The Coal Workers' and Lighters' Union has agreed not to carry coal for the gasworks. A Trades Union deputation asked the Prime Minister to intervene. The latter replied that he had no cause to intervene. The company had done nothing contrary to tdie law. Hie would, However, . do has utmost to bring about a conference. He would appoint an arbitrator if both sides were agreeable.
