The ninth, annual dog trials, which were held under the auspices of the Masterton Collie Club, opened on Mr Walter Cameron's property ai Te Ore Ore yesterday. There was a good attendance of farmers, shepherds, and others, and considerable interest was taken in the trials. Mr Gordon Grant, of Porangsahau, acted as judge. The trials will be continued to-day. Following were the results of the events which were got off yesterday. CLASS I.— Heading, Bringing Back and Holding in the ring to the satisfaction of the judge. (Open.) About 600 yards. Competitor to remain within' ring while working his dog. Time allowed, 12 minutes. Points: Heading, 10 points; bringing Iback, 8; command, 8; holding, 4. First prize £7, second £5, third £2. Curtis' "Tip," heading 8, bringing back 7, command 6, holding 2, total 23 points 1 A. J. Meikle's "Wattie," heading 8, bringing hack 6, command 6, holding 2, total 22 points 2 5. Lambert's "Pat," heading 1, bringing back 5, command 5, holding 2, total 21 points 3 D. Sutherland's "Tweed," heading 8, bringing iback 6, oomimiand 4, holding 1, total 19 points.

The following are the judge's remarks :—First dog, headed: off to the right; went out in good line; headed inlmdn 45sec; fair command; fairly good at ring. Second: Oast to the left; went out in fair line; headed well in 2mriiii Sseo; made fair line in drawing sheep; held well in ring, but let out once, fair command. Third: Cast to Tight; went out in fair line, headed in 2min lOsec; 'brought (back in fair line, but out in on isheep onoe; fair at ring, but let sheep out .twice.; fair command. Fourth: Oast to left, but cut in rather, close when heading; noisy in., pulling; let sheep out on right but pulled fairly well; style good'. CLASS ll.—Heading, Driving and Yarding.—(A) Open. (B) Open only to competitors residing •within the boundaries of the Wairarapa and Masterton Electoral Districts. Competitor and dog to be at least three months resident in the districts. Head a.nd bring back 4U\J yards, drive through ring, drive (75 yards) through, one set of hurdles 8 feet apart, drive 75 yards and yard in a pen of 4 hurdles (one hurdle to be used, as a gate and may be used as a wing). Dog and worker to keep behind sheep and follow them through hurdles. Time allowed 15 minutes. Points: Heading 7, Bringing Back 7, Driving 8, Styfle- at yarding 4, Yarding 4, Comimand 10; A—First prize £5, second £3, third £2, fourth, Messrs Harcombe «"d Donald's value 7s 6d. B— First prize Mr H. H. Beetham's special £5 ss, .second, Wellington Meat Export Oo.'s special £3 3s; third, Mr J. P. Perry's special, £2; fourth, Messrs Townsend and Oowper's value 7s 6d; fifth, Mr J. Elliott's value 7.s 6d.

There were twenty-five entries in this event. Twelve competitors ran off yesterday, when darkness necessitated a .stop. The competition will he continued this morning.
