THE WAINGAWA WORKS.

CIRCULAR TO SHAREHOLDERS

The Secretary of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company has issued the following circular to shareholders :

"Having almost completed the first killing season of the Company, the Board are now in a position to guage the capacity of the works for the requirements of the district, and they | have to report to shareholders that in point of size the works are too small to cope with the rush of stock in tho j height of the season. They also wish to point out that the season just ended has hot'been by any means a good fattening season, so that in a year such as 1909-10 the quantity of stock offered would be very greatly in excess of what the works could take. "An extensive system of enlargement would l>o impossible to carry out at the present time, but a modified scheme which wonld increase the capacity to about 2500 601b sheep per , day, with storage at 45.000, could be [ carried out at comparatively small exI penditnre. Such a scheme, of course. | would have to be part of a, genera I ' plan for further enlargement, and would comprise the erection of additions to the present slaughter board and chambers, the installation of ;i. smaller refrigerator, the duplication of the electrical power plant, and an • extra boiler and wool dryer. The to- ! tal estimated cost would approximate ) £12.000.

'*The necessity for'increased storage is being demonstrated at the present time'at a serious loss to the producer. As will be seen from recent cables, the price of mutton and Jamb has been reduced tOyaiiunnayaW^level-QwiaE.to large accumulation of stocks. - -The only remedy for this state of affairs is to nrovide sufficient storage capacity at this end in order to regulate shioments. It is the intention of the Board to assist as far a,--, it lies in their power. "Th« object of this circular is to nlaco these facts lwforo ynn, so as to ascertain vnur views on tlie subject, and, should a sufficient number of shareholder* .desire ft. a" extraordin.arv general meeting of the Company will be called to consider the proposal.

"Tt is vcrv ffrntifyino- to the-Board to bo able to ronort that the first consignment of frozen mutton and lamb, returns of which are just to hand, has met with favour among Smitbfield bnver.s. The mutton was stated i-o be ennal to nrimo Canterbury, if not better, andj.he prices obtained justified the statement. Prime mutton replied 4-id. and nrimo lamb Ski. The W.F.M. brand is now ouoted distinct from other North Island brands on market reports."
