The Wanganui Jockey Club's winter meeting commenced to-day, in beautiful weather, and with a large attendance. The amount put through, tlhe machine was £16,024, as against £10,906 on last year's first day, an increase of £sllß. Results : Borough Handicap.— Faunus 1, Mon Ami 2, Tumut 3. Also started —St. Toney, Ny&and, Sim bonnet Irish Rifle, True Shot, Vibration, Eclogue, Lady Francis, Simplex and Tekahurangi. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin. 15 l-ssec. Wanganui Steeplechase.— Corazon 1, El Dorado 2, Mt. Cook 3. Also started— Te Axai, Loch Fyne, Ma-' hara, Lovell, Eurus, Corona, Castout, Winchester. A splendid race. Won by a neck. Time, 6min. 3 sec.
