MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

The • monthly meeting of the Oommlttee of the Miasiter.ton Borough Council was held last evening, there being present— His n Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. Ooradine), and Ors. H,. O'Leary, J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, T. Boat, W. Clandy, W. Prctgnell, J. 0. Ewingfon, J. P. Prentice and W. Donald.

tTh.e secretary of the Cemetery j§Trustees asked that six pine trees overhanging the buildings ef the Trust, and otherwise affecting ihe reserve, be removed.— Or O'Leary pointed out that the trees were a I nuisance in their present position.— Or Hoar moved that the tree® be removed.— Or Ewington objected, stating that some of the trees reI ferred to afforded shelter. The , matter had previously been, before l the Council.— Or Hoar did' not remamher the matter having been before the Council. The trees were a distinct nuisance.— After fuiilher discussion, it was decided, on the motion of the Mayor, that tile matter be referred to the custodian, of the Park (Mr Jackson) for a report. Three ratepayers in the upper portion, of Cornwall Street asked that provision be mode on the estimates for foiiming a footpath, from PowxiaH Street to Tarawa Street. In tihe meantnim© they asked that metal be placed in front of their residences.— The matter was referred to t<he Engineer, with 1 power to act. lAII application from Mr Martin RerSais for permission to remove gravel firotm the Kuripuni pit, was gnamted, subject to the approval of the Engineer. Mr J. B. Keith, as agent for certain defaulting ratepayer®, wrote, objecting to the payment of costs of summonses for rates, on the ground that he had been wrongly advised by officers of the Council.— Alfiter some discussion, it was decided that the Council cannot see its way clear to make a refund of the cost of summons. The Council then considered, and dealt with tihe estimates.
