THE MAYOR'S HONORARIUM.

The Masterton Borough Council did the proper tiling last night in increasing tihe honorarium of its Mayor from £SO to £IOO per year. There can be no excuse for parsimony in a miatter of this sort. The town has no right to expect its Mayor to give a large portion of his time to the work of tihe Borough, and. to mulct him in heavy financial losb besides. In these democratic days, the highest office in the gift of the burgesses should not be restricted to men of wealth and' leisure alone.
