A London cable received last night stated that Mr Joseph Chamberlain has arrived in London.

The death of Mrs Tom Adamson, better known among her Maori and European friends as Niga Waiata, is announced. Her husband was the fearless rcout in the Maori war who rendered such good services to the military on many occasions. Mr John Stevens, for many years M.P. for Manawatu, intends taking up his residence in Palmerston North.

The friends of Mrs Tai Te Tau, >f Masterton, will be pleased to htear that she is making satisfactory progress towards recovery from her recent severe illness.

Mr John Strang, of Glenside, Masterton, is at present on a visit to the Hawke's Bay district.

Mrs George Rignokl, wife of the well-known Shakespearean actor and manager, died last week at Sydney. Mrs Rignold was a.'daughter of _ the famous comedian. Mr George Coppin, M.L.C., owner, of the Theatre Royal,' Melbourne.

The death occurred at Wellington yesterday of Mr James Ashcroft, for many years Official Asignee in the Empire City. The deceased, who was seventy-seven years of age, was at one time a member of the Provincial Council of Otago. He filled the editorial chair of the Otago Daily Times for five years. Mr F. H. Wood, of Te Avohn. who was for many years a respected settler of the Wairarapa, has purchased a residence at Epsom. Auckland, wher.r he intends making his future abode.

The. death is announced by cable '>f Mr Edward Grace, eldest brother of Dr. W. 6. Grace, the well-known cricketer.

Canon Jones, nrincipal of the Moore Theological College in Sydney, is dead.

Mr George Lines, who has been manager of the Bank of New Zealand at "Wanpanui for ramo time, and who was formerly stationed at Pahiatua, has been appointed assistant manager of the Bank at Auckland.
