WAIBARAPA RUGBY UNION. cui? competitions. Tlie cup matches under the auspices of tlie Wairarapa Rugby Union, were oontiinued on Saturday. Rain fe3l throughout the whole of the afternoon, and the grounds were very slippery. The results axe as fol- • low: SENIOR. RED STAR (5) v. MASTERTON (3.) Red Star defeated Miasterton on the Showgrounds by 5 points to 3. Tlie game was a very even one from beginning to end. In the first half each side scored a rfcry, 'and the Stars converted their try. L. Welch scored the try for Stars, and F. Ball kicked the goal. Tlie try for Ma,sterton was cleverly scored in tlie corner -by Iggulden. In the .second halt there was no iscore at allT. Masterton. got on their opponents.' line seveeral times, hut were repeatedly returned hy the Star hacks' good kicking. Several chances were imiissed hy bad passing because of the slippery condition of the ball and by selfishness on the part of players. On Saturday's showing there is not much to choose (between the two teams. Masterton- attacked well and Stars defended well one minute, and tlie i next minute the position was vice : wersa. Mr E. McKenzie held the '■ whistle. CARTERTON (15) v. GLADSTONE (0). The Carterton and Gladstone .seniors met at Gladstone. A number of the Gladstone players were absent, and. it is stated that two others were so badly injured shortly after the eommettDemeiit of the game that they had to leave the field. The home team played well under the circumstances, but were unable to withstand the onslaughts of the visiting forwards. Carterton scored 15 points against their opponents' nil. Mr A. B. Charters refereed. JUNIOR. RED STAR (12) v. MASTERTON (0) The Masterton juniors were defeated by the Red Star juniors by 12 points (four unconverted rties) to nil. The former had a very good forward section, but" their hacks were very weak, which accounted for their defeat. The Stars showed good play all around, and deserved their win. Mr T. Fielding was referee. LIBERAL (11) v. GREYTOWN (8). Liberal defeated Greyitbwin by 11 points to 8, in the match played at Feathenston. The teams, which are the heaviest junior teams in the competition, were fairly evenly unlatched. 5 Mr J., M. Niicholls refereed.

Carterton juniors defeated Dalefield (last year's junior idhampioins), ait Carterton, by 11 points' to 3. Dalefield started well, and had perhaps the best of the- first 'Sipell, but from then on Carterton held them safely. Mr Roydhouse made an efficient referee. THIRD CLASS. RED STAR (11) v. MASTERTON (3) Red Star 3XI. were also suoceisisful in gaining a win, defeating Masiterton by 11 points to nil. The game was merely a scramble, good football ibeing impossible under the weather conditions prevaiiiling. Mr Hairding refereed. GREYTOWN (11) v. LIBERAL (0). The Greytown and Liberal junior*, met at Greytown, and the match resulted in a win for the former by 11 points to nil. Mr B. Chapman was referee. CARTERTON (18) v. DALEFIELD (0). The Dalefield 111. got a had beating by Carterton, the game ending in favour of the latter by 18 points to nil.

NOTES. The Red Star dub has changed its practice night at *t3ie Drill Hall to Tuesday evenings. The Olub lias been fortunate in .securing the services of Mr M. Adams,'who for many years was "wing forward for the Petone seniors as coadi. Mr Actams lias an extensive knowledge of indoor training. A full attendance- of the three teams l is specially requested for tomorrow night. From Bush Rugby Union, asking for an approximate date of match to be played with them this season fin their district.— Resolved to recommend that the match be played about the middle of August. From the referee in the third-class match at Masterton on Saturday, complaining about the absence of proper marks on that ground.— Resolved that instructions, be given for the three grounds to be marked off on all occasions when that (number are required. \ From the Masterton Football Club, posting an unfinancial member re- I 'ported to be playing for Carterton juniors.— It was reported that the matter had since 'been satisfactorily fixed up. It was resolved that the liberal and Dalefield Clubs be written to, asking them to take up collection® on their respective grounds for all home matches, otherwise the Union would be compelled to charge these clubs their referee and other expenses. The junior match Liberal v. Red 1 Star, originally drawn to be played at Greytown, on Saturday, May 27th, was shifted to Carterton on account of the Greytown v. Dalefield match being played on the only ground available. The drawing of groundis for matches to be played at Masterton next Saturday resulted as follow®: No. 1 'ground, Carterton senior v. Masterton senior, referee Mr Charters; No. 2 ground, Red Star senior v. Gladstone senior, referee Mr T. Fielding; No. 3 ground, Masterton juniors v. .Carterton juniors, referee Mr Harding. Aocounts .amounting to £7 18s 6d were passed for payment.
