This measure was -passed in the last isession of Parliament, ostensibly with the object of relieving the congestion in large centres. Under its provisions a worker may obtain a dwelling on the payment of a -deposoib of £lO, and 5 per cent, on .the balance. The dwelling, however, must be erected on land iset apart by the Government for workers', dwialilings. . So far as Majs>terton is oonoerned, .there is not .such a congestion as to warrant the erection of workers' homes. • Rents, gezierally .speaking, are not abnormally \ high, and there cs not & scarcity of] houses, although there has 'been a i keen demand of late for the better ) clasis of residence.
