CUROTE SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS.

In the Supreme Court at Wetting<ton yesterday, Charles Gurote, alias "Bismarck," who had been found guilty of the charge of .stealing a quantity of chaff, the property of Mr Edward Jones, of Masterton, came up for isentenoe. Mr O'Leary handed in ut written statement from the prisoner. His Honour said,' the report lie had of the prisoner wa® not very flattering. He had been several tames .previously convicted, and the report of the police was not favourable. Mr O'Leary pleaded For leniency, as prisoner had not been before the court Km a serious charge since 1896. His Honour sentenced the prisoner to two years' imprisonmnent, witfli hard labour, in the Wellington gaol.
