OBSCENE LANGUAGE.

A YOUNG NATIVE FINED. A young native named Wi Brown was charged in tihe Magistrate s Gourt at Masterton yesterday, before Mr L. G. Reid, S.M., with having used obscene language in a public place. The accused pleaded not guilty, and elected to foe dealt with summarily. Sergeant Miller, who prosecuted, stated itihat the licensed went to a picture entertainment when under tfhe influence of liquor. He was ordered out of the building, and when, outside used very obscene language. Evidence as to the conduct of the accused and the language employed was given by Frank Boyle, Frank Hook, and. Constable Dumpily. The accused sftaited that he did not remember having used the language,' and lie could rafi witnesses to show that they did mot hear him. His Worship said lie had no doubt

that (the language complained of had been used. Although the offence was j a serious one, the accH&ed would be dealt with leniently on account of hi® being a Native. A fine of 40s and costs would be imposed, in default one month's imprisonment. Future
