LONDON, May 17
Sir George Reid gave a luncheon to Mr Fisher,.Mr Pearoe and Mr Bachelor, the Commonwealth delegates to the- Imperial Conference, at the Trocadero.
Those present included Mr Lewis Haroourt, Lords Denman and Strathcona, Sir Joseph Ward, the Lord Mayor, leading London editors, Sir William Hall-Jones, the Agents-Gen-eral, and many other Australians. Sir George Reid, referring to the Coronation, said that for the first time in history they had a King who knew the Dominions from personal observations.
Mr Fisher, in responding to a toast, paid a tribute to the hospitality accorded him in England. If he had a desire above any other, speaking as an [ individual, it was that British statesI manship, which enabled the Dominions freely, to develop, might long continue and bo further extended. "By meeting together we get closer in touch with great issues, enabling us to avoid friction which might occasionally arise between different parts of the Empire." He looked forward to the time when such conferences might embrace not merely the Empire, but the English-speaking peoples, in the interests of peace. A KINDLY ACT. (Received May 18, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 17. As the seats for Nonconformists had already been allotted, the King has given the Rev. J. H. Jowett one of the seats at the Abbey placed at his Majesty's disposal. ,
