SHIPPING LEGISLATION.

A HOME PROTEST

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.

(Received May 17, 8 a.m.)

LONDON, May 16. The Right Hon. Mr Buxton received a deputation of shipowners in reference to colonial legislation. Mr Norman Hill, Liverpool, urged that shipping should be regulated by Imperial legislation. The idea of colonial legislators endeavouring to enforce whatever Acts the colonies chose to pass was absolutely appalling. Mr R. Dunlop, Glasgow, said that many proposals of the Commonwealth Navigation Bill was contrary to Imperial law. Mr Buxton said he would discuss the matters brought forward, with the oversea delegates, and it was therefore improper for him to express his views then. He promised to bear the deputation's statements in mind.
