The Hon. G. Fowlds opens a new hospital at Taihape to-day. Mr Charles Wilson, Parliamentary Librarian, was last night elected chairman of the Victoria College Council. Mrs G. Spackman, of Masterton,' has just returned from Hawke's Bay, j where she has been for two months on a health-recruiting trip. She is much benefited by the change. | Misses B. Yallance and N. Bennett, of Otahuao, and Miss Chalmers, of Fernyhurst, returned to New Zealand by the Sydney boat yesterday. The death occurred at Mangatainoka at an early hour on Tuesday morn- ( ing of Mr Peter Walsh, a very old colonist, and father of Mr J. Walsh, of Mangtainoka. The deceased had reached the ripe age of 84 years. For | the past eight years he had resided with Hs son in Mangatainoka. Mr F. M. B. Fisher, M.P., returned to Wellington from Australia on Tuesday. He announces his intention of contesting the Wellington Central seat against all comers. Mr Andrew Douglas, a well-known sheep farmer of Te . Wharau, died on Tuesday night at the age of 58 years. Deceased had been suffering from pneumonia during th© past twelve months. The late gentleman was highly respected in the district, and much regret will be felt at his somewhat sudden death, while the sympathy will bo tendered to the 'bereaved familv. The funeral will leave tbo house of Mr C. Caton, "Dalmure," Eketahuna, at 2.30 p.m. to-day for the >» Eketahuna. cemetery.
