THE KNYVETT CASE.
If the report contained in a telegraim from Auckland ibe correct, that the Oourt-mantial has confirmed the dismissal of ex-Captain Knyvett, andi that, in spite of this dismissal, the Officer Commanding the Forces' is willing to accept an ample apology and to place Knyvett on the list of reserve, officers, the discipline of the defence system is likely to be severely strained. The man is either .guilty or not guilty of an act of insubordination. If he is guilty, his conduct should not be palliated) in any shape or form. If he is not guilty, he should be immediately reinstated. No middle course should be possible if the efficiency of t'he service is to be maintained.
