MR ROBINSON'S MOTIONS.
Mr H. C. Robinson was given a very patient hearing by tit© Masterton Trust Lands Trust voters last evening. At considerable length he traverse<| the policy of tlhe Trust in regard to its building operations. TTiiR arguments were not without Some force, though they Were not quite as lucid as they might have been. It is purely a matter of opinion whether, on a return of, say, 8 per cent., the Trustees are warranted in (borrowing money with which to erect business premises. The risk, as everybody knows, is mot inconsiderable, and in case of extreme depression it is not difficult to imagine that a large portion of the Trust 'revenue might be employed in paying interest, on borrowed money. The object of the Trust, however, has been (to increase its revenue by putting it® vacant allotments ito profitable account. The power to pledge its > esitate has been conferred upon it by die Legislature, and the electors' have authorised: the borrowing of money far building purposes. If, then, the investments made should turn out unprofitable,, the responsibility would be with the Trustees, but with the electors who approved this method of dealing with a portion of the Trust lands. It is too late ■ for Mr Robinson to now object. Itf he thought tile policy of "•borrowing was wrong, lie should have fought it. before it was sianetioned by the electors. He oan hardly complain at the voters la,at night endorsing an opinion they had already expressed at the poll.
