CARTERTON.

The local Lodge of Druids rave decided ito eater two teams in the Master! on, United Friendly Societies' seveoi-ansitle football 'tournament to be played.'on June 3rd. Bros. N. andi H. MiaKjenzie and C. Keifl have been, appointed a committee to make the selection of the t-oms.

A couple of inebriates, man and woman, who \\]ecre arrested the previous- evening for drunkenness, appeared in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The wcmrai was from Mast-enton, and rthe man a stranger to the town. Both were first offenders, and the man, who was quarrelsomely drunk, was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. The woman, who 'pleaded guilty, was convicted ,aaid discharged. Mr Purcell Webb, of Masterton, is to give ail organ .recital at St. Mark's Church this evening. Misses Ida Feist, Janet Miller (Ma-sterton), and Mr Green (Masterton) will contribute vocal items.

,At a meeting of the Belvedere School Committee, the proposed Dramatic Club were granted the use of the schoolroom for one evening each week. The Headmaster in his report mentioned that the hnd been raised from Grade 3 to Grade 4. The roll numlber was s">, and the average attendance for the month had been 51.5. A young steer, belonging i Mr H. Hodge, had its back broken through a anoitor car colliding with it, on the Taratahi Road on Monday. The animal was emerging from the saleyards gate, when the motor was observed approaching some 200 yards away.
