WAIRARAPA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The thirty-sixth annual meeti.ig cf the "Wairarapa Caledonian Socusty was iielcl in the Dominion l*all <>n Saturday afternoon last. The President (Mr Alex. McLeod), occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members.

In formally moving Uie adoption of the report and balance-sheet (whicn kas already appeared in the Wairarapa Age), the chairman said it was very gratifying to know that there was such a substantial balance to the credit of the Society. The enthusiasm shown by the large increase in membership proved that the Society meant to keep its position as one of the strongest in finances, while it gave the larger fields from which to draw correctors. He hoped the day was not far distant when the Society would be able to mark an era in its life by some worthy act of benevolence or some nw ement educationally with any profit that may be derived from the sports. It was not the desire of the directors to hold more than sufficient money to meet a bad sports day or two without getting into debt. The concert was a great success, and ti. i able way in whioh the programme had been arranged by Messrs Sellar and Hunn was highly commented on by the public. Referring to the Pipe Band the president said he hoped to seo it in full swing before long. Mr Buchanan, who had generously promised to provide the uniforms for the Band, had arranged tomeet the committee :*t an early date to go details of the cost and requirerr--rtj of the uniforms, so that the committee would have something definite to work on. The speaker thanked all those who had so generously assisted to make the sports the great success they had proved. Mr J. H. Pauling said he was pleased to see the progress made by the Society. In electing Mr Gillespie to thR position of secretary it had been moved that he was the right man in the right place. The increase in the membership , was really wonderful, and !was a credit to the institution "Progress" should be the welcome cry of the Society, which would prosper as long as they worked well together. Other Members spoke in similar terms, ani the report and balancesheet were unanimously adopted. The following new members were elected

Messrs A W. Hogg, M.P., J. F. B. Sutherland, James Whittaker, F. Noon, Hubert Fairweather, H. L. Dickson, and N. Stewart. The election of officers was then proceeded with. The secretary reported that the following had been re-elected unopposed: President, Mr Alex. McLeod; vice-presidents, Messrs J. B. McKensrio and.J. H. Pauling; treasurer, Mr G. R. Sykes. Twenty-three nominations were received for the election of fifteen directors. The ballot resulted in the following order :—Messrs D. McLachlan, G. Stewart, R. Cameron, E. E. Chamberlain, Thos. Wyeth, Robt. McKenzie, W. Sellar, Geo. McHattie, J Georgeson, Alex. Turner, E. H. Waddington, R. Gray. John McHattie, T. G. Hoar, R. W. Robson.

Mr R. Brown was re-elected to the position of auditor. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr P. C. Frasi for the gift of an enlarged plan of the Park Oval. Mr Gillesme moved that the words, "not tra isferable," be deleted in future from members' tickets'. Members should have the privilege of transferring their tickets if they found they were unable to use them. Mr T. Wyeth agreed with the mover that it was hardly fair to country members particularly, not being able to transfer their tickets. He would The motion was e-iTied unanimously. Mr J. It was finally decided that all persons dressed in Highland costume, be entitled to, all privileges of the Society, whether they are members or net, including free admission to the sports and grandstand. anJ the concert on New Year's night, free of charge, provided they take part in the marcji to the snorts in the morning, and also the march to the Town Hall in the evening; .time of starting both marches and place of meeting to be advertised, otherwise they.be charged fiull rates of admission. Mr W. Gillespie, in accordance with notice of motion given, moved as follows :

"That pleasant social evenings be held during the winter months, consisting of sonps. music, recitations, etc., from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m., on dates to bo arranged, each director, in rotation, to be responsible for the evening's programme, and to preside over the gathering; the rent of hall, cost of piano, etc., to be borne by the Society; admission to be free gn production of Member's Ticket; < non-nop-members, Is each." This was seconded by Mr R. W. Robson, and carried unanimously. On the motion of Mr B-obson it was decided, "That on payment of a fee of ten shillings per annum any youth or girl under the age of 21 years, who has been duly nominated and seconded by members of the Society will be entitled to part of ETie nrivileges now enjoyed bv members of the Society, viz.. admission to social gatherings, Tnglende, and the annual sports gathering; it being understood that such youths or girls shall not, unless they have paid the full membership, be entitled to vote at of the Society. ">r take part in thp Society's business." It was decided, on the motion of Mr Wyeth, that in future the number oi meetings each director attends durinp the year be recorded on the voting paper.

The date of the next '"Tnelesicte" was fixed for Thursday, 22nd Jene.
