MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETIWC. The 'monthly meeting or the Ma,sterton District High School Committee .was held last nighft, there being present:— Messrs C. Perry, E. H. Waddington, T. J. Thompson, A. Hendry, E. Pragnel-1, J. L. Hughes, A. W. Chapman, and G. Hyde. An apology for absence was received from Sir R. Brown (chairman). Mi* Perry was appointed to the. chair.

The Treasurer reported the receipts ; during the month to be £66 4s 7d, ! expenditure £2l 18s 7d, leaving a : credit of £44 6s. It was decided to meet at 7.30 j p.m., instead of 8 p.na. diuring the j winter 'months. ' The secretary was instructed to apply to the Masterfcon 'frust Lands Trust for the usual grant. The Headmaster's report was read as follows : Attendance.— Main j School, roll 632, average attendance ; 567, percentage of attendance 90: ! Side School, 632, 567, 90; Secondary Classes, 65, 61, 94. Th* measles , epidemic has greatly reduced the at- ; tendance at the Side School, and j also, though to a less extent, in the ■ infant department at the Mam School. There have been very few j absences for other reasons. The ac- j comtpanying absentee report contains only a few names. Staff. — Miss R,. Zimian, the third secondary assistant, retired from tihe staff on the 30tli ult., and the secondary staff of assistants is now reduced to two. Inspections—The annual inspection visit to the school was made bv Inspectors Fleming and Tennant on Thursday the 4th, and Friday the Still in-sts. The Education Department's Technical Inspector—Mr E. C. Isaac— is inspecting the work in Manual and Technical subjects to-

tendances of scholars whose names have apeaml on previous lists. Terra Holiday and Coronation Holiday.— The Board has decided to close its schools for the above holiday for a fortnight, from the 19th proximo. The report was received.
