HUNDREDS OF DEAD AND

WOUNDED

MEXICO CITY, May 9. A big ibattle is rag&ig at Jaurez

There are hundreds of dead and wounded on bath sides.

Th© Federals refuse to surrender. It is expected the rebels will get possession of the tow© this afternoon. A CRAVE SITUATION. WILL THE STATES INTERVENE? Received This Morning, 12.6 o'clock. WASHINGTON, May 10. President Taft admits that the Mexican situation is grave. The whole of the States excepting three are involved in the insurrection. Cabinet-has discussed its duty in maintaining order in the American Continent. No foreign President Taift declared,, had hitherto suggested that the United States should intervene. A RESULTLESS BATTLE. FIVE SPECTATORS KILLED. REBELS CAPTURE A TOWN. Received This Morning, 12.6 o'clock. MEXICO CITY, May 10. A report from Elpaso states that the Jaurez battle was resultless. It is probable that there will be a resumption of hostilities at daybreak^ Five American trans-frontier .spectators were killed and fifteen wounded. The Federal loss does not exceed ; fifty dead. The refbels' loss is probaibly /the saime.

The rebels gained possession of the streetis of Jaurez several times, bust the Federals drove them out with a heavy fire. The rebels hold important positions.

If the attack is resumed, it is •likely they wall capture the city. The rebels captured the towm of Tiguaiia, in Lower California, by an assault. Seventy were killed and wounded on both sides. PRESIDENT TAFT ATTACKED. WASHINGTON, May 10. Senator Stone attacked President Taft in .the course of a Senate debate for his failure to take action to protect the lives of Americans on the Mexican border. He asserted that the despatch, of American troops was a mere game of blufL He suggested that' troops be sent to Mexican soil to protect the Americans, and then retire.

Senator Bacon replied that an invasfon meant immediate war. The Senate decided to take no action in the matter.
