SUGGESTS A BETTERMENT TAX,

SYDNEY. May 9

Mr Peter Bowling,, who was prominent in the formation of a Chief Commission of Railways before the Public Wonks Committee, - suggested a betterment tax,, which he proposed partly on account of the enhanced value of the land served by the railways. This should be devoted to the reduction of the capital cost of the Railways, The railways should also be credited with the increased revenue derived from the Ci'own lands through which the railway passed.
