THE PEACE COMPACT. SATISFACTORY PROGRESS. Received. .This Morning, 1.5 o'clock. OTTAWA, May 5. Interviewed concerning the peace compact between Britain and the United States, the Son. Mr Bryce, who is visiting Earl Grey, declared that satisfactory progress is being made. President Taft is much gratified at Britain's reception of the . proposals. The British Ambassador (Mr Bryce) refused to discuss reciprocity, ctatiing that America had not made it a party question to the extent the Canadians did. He hoped the Anglo-American arbitration would, prove a lesson to (the whole world. Sir Wilfrid Laurier has agreed to the- proposal ' by the Conservatives that the House shall adjourn till June or July.
