A NEW STEAMER.
TtoE S.S. MEDINA. The P. and O. Company's* new steamer, "Medina," has been chartered as a royal yacht to convey their Majesties and suite to India for the Coronation Durbar at Delhi. This vessel is §6O feet long, has a displacement of 18,700 tons, a gross tonnage of 12,500, and her twin screw reciprocating engines will develop 15,000 horse power, and a speed of 19 knots. She, and her twin sister, the "Maloja," are the largest steamers yet built for the P. and O. Company, and will be the largest of their class in the Australian trade, where owing to the limitation of the Suez Canal and other causes, tonnage rules much below the Atlantic standard. Both vessels will be fitted with a powerful wireless instalation, bedstead cabins, electric laundries, and other electrical devices, while their passenger accommodation will be of the most luxurious character. The "Maloja" will make her maiden trip, in November next to Bombay, conveniently in advance of the date fixed for their Majesties Coronation Durbar at Delhi.
