MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The usual monthly meeting of the Council was held on Saturday, the 29th day of April. Present, — Crs. F. W. H. Kummer (chairman), H. J. Dagg, C. Churchill Jackson, E. Pedersen, J. E. Perry and 0. Isakson. Correspondence was dealt with from A. Falkner, deprecating the impounding of the sawmill bullocks at Kaiparoro; from the secretary to the Charitable Aid Board, re an old man, named Charles Tongs, stating that no effort is being spared to secure Ms admission to a suitable home; from J. Farrow desiring his "thirds" spent on the Kaiparoro Road, and complaining of the state in which the road is at present at the \ tramline crossing j from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, informing th£ Council that the smalt reserves between the Kaiparoro road and the Makakahi river cannot be vested in the local body, as the yhave been, gazetted for river ba,nk protection purposes; from the Valuer-Gfeneral, forwarding revised rolls; from A. Hansen, protesting against any liberty being granted to graze mill bullocks on Kaiparoro road. The Ranger and Mr Farrow were present at the meeting, and more fully explained the position with regard to this matter, and it was afterwards resolved to notify Messrs Parker and Co., sawmillers, that a prosecution will ensue if effective steps are not at once taken to restrain the mill bullocks from trespassing on the road. ~,

C. A. Wall wrote, pointing out that water tables require cleaning put on Mount Bruce Road. This will shortly be attended' to. It was resolved to apply for unpaid balance of grant for metalling Mangatainoka Road. Tenders will be invited for maintenance of Jackson's Road for a period of one year. Accounts amounting to £179 10s 9d were passed for payment.
