BLENHEIM, Last Night

The Marlborough Racing Club's twenty-fifth cup meeting opened today in fine weather. The course was in excellent order, and there was a largo attendance, including His Excellency the Governor. The fields were larger than usual, and good finishes were witnessed. The totalisator investments amounted to £6582, compared with £4586 on the first day last year. Results:—

Maiden Hack Race, five furlongs.— Long Tom 1, Glenfern 2, Inveran 3. Six others started. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin 3secs. TJgbrooke Welter, seven furlongs.— First Consul 1, Aimwell 2, Bracken 3. Scratched —Toanga, Ribston Pippin, Wild Bird, and Succession. Won by half a length. Time, lmin 30secs.

Opawa Welter, seven furlongs.— Negative 1, Astonishment 2, Ice] 3. Scratched —Beacon and Daunton. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin, 31 1-osee. Marlborough Cup, li miles.—Gunboat 1, Beacon 2, Directoire 3. Also started—Equitas, Merrie Zealand, Aimwell, Aberration, Kilosteri, Laius. and Hilarian. Directoire and Equitas led past the stand, Beacon lying third. At the four furlong post Beacon went to the front. Ten lengths from home Gunboat came through, and the pair fought out the finish, Gunboat winning by half a length. Equitas, the favourite, finished in the ruck. Time, 2min Bsecs. Autumn Hack, six furlongs.— Ahuapai 1, Negative 2, Merrie Time 3. Also ran—Daunton. The winner led nearly the whole way, winning by a neck from Negative, who finished fast. Time, lmin 16 2-5 sees. Flying Handicap, 6 furlongs.—Glenspring 1, Merrie Frank 2, Red Lupin 3. Also ran —Zealand, Wild Bird, Surmount, Irish Rifle, Tumut and Splash. The winner led the whole way, and won by a length. Time, lmin ssecs. " .

Electric Hack, five furlongs.—Undecided 1, Allurement 2, Septimus 3. Also ran—Merrie Goer, Glenrock, and Geordie. Won by a length. Time, Imin 3sees..
