DEMONSTRATION IN PARIS.
CHARGE BY CUIRASSIERS

PARIS, May 1
Despite tho Government's decision to prohibit Labour demonstrations on May Day, on tho ground that they would interfere with traffic, intending demonstrators attempted to gather in tho Place de la Concorde, tho noted square north of the Seine and west of the Tuileries. Their way was-barred, however, and they then assembled in tho Champs Elysees (an avenue, and the gardens .surrounding it, extending from tho Place de la Concordo for a distance of one and a quarter miles.) Cuirassiers charged the mob.
Several arrests, including that c" a man charged with firing a revolver were also made.
A policeman was stabbed in the back during the disturbance.

The Socialists held a May Day meeting and adopted a resolution repudiating the so-called Labour parties of Australia, and condemning tho conscription laws.
