THEFT IN MASTERTON.
CONFECTIONER'S SHOP WINDOW BROKEN. QUANTITY OF GOODS REMOVED On going to his shop between ten and eleven o'clock yesterday morning, Mr W. Wilkes, confectioner, of Queen Street, Masterton, was surprised to find that one of his plateglass windows had been broken, and a quantity of confectionery removied. ( It is believed that the act was committed at a late hour on Saturday night by one or more'youths. Mr Wilkes left the shop just before elev■en o'clock on Saturday night, when everything was in order. The. hole in the window was large enough to put one's head through. The glass had been badly scratched bv some hard metal, and evidently by a person who knew very little about cutting glass. A square which vwould have mad? a hole almost big enough for a medium-sized man 'to get through, had been scratched on the glass. A ©mailer square was marked inside the bigger one. The .scratches and marks, however, could not have helped to any material extent the breaking of the window. The break was ragged, and appeared to have been done with a knock from a person's elbow, or perhaps a «tone. The occupier of the shop is not quite certain as to /the amount of confectionery removed, but he says it was at least on£> pound's worth, and might possibly be two or; .three pounds' worths .-.•.. The matter has been plaoed in the hands of the police.
