CLOSER SETTLEMENT.
[To The Editor A Sir, — lam pleased to note that you have struck the right key in the matter of close settlement for' Masterton. The candidates for the Borough Council have taken up the refrain, and Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, a candidate for the Wairarapa. seat, has given his opinion on the subject. I could not read Mi- Hornsby's lengthy effusion in your columns without thinking that the Pharisaical era has not entirely departed* Mr Hornsby would have us believe that he =has done a great deal for close settlement in the Wairarapa, and is thirsting for the opportunity to do more. People in the Wairarapa have laughed consumedly at his presumption. But that is another story. Close settlement is really wanted, and the Government has no money with which to buy high-priced estates. The suggestion recently made in your columns that settlers should voluntarily sub-divide some of their property is a good one. I trust the hint will be taken.— I am, etc., RUSTICTJS. Carterton, April 26, 1911.
