MASTERTON BOXING CLUB.

WAIRARAPA BOXING ASSOCIA-

TION*.

Following was the first annual report and balance-sheet submitted at the general meeting of members last night:— We have much pleasure- in submitting to you the first annual report and balance sheet of the Masterton Boxing Club, Wairarapa' Boxing Association, since a season may be reviewed:,, and members congratulated on the result of their efforts. The honorary membership numbered ninety, and the active members fifty-eight for the two quarters. Mr F. Maloriey was engaged as instructor, and proved eminently satisfactory, the men making excellent - progress under { Ms tuition. Three tournaments were held during the winter, the first at the Boxing Hall and the remaining two at the Town Hall. .. Capital attendances were recorded at each. Messrs Tracy, Qoslin gand Murphy were engaged to spar at the second) tourney. The Championship Meeting produced 21 competitors, and resulted in ,3|e&srs Barr, Grey, -Smith,' Iggulden, •'Billingtqn, and Welch winning the Bantam, Feather, Light, Welter, Middle, and Heavy-weights respectively. Ma- Wm. Barton, Patron of the Wairarapa Boxing Association, kindly presented the trophies. ' During the season, members, have"'visited Eketahuna, Featherston'; and Tinui, in order to assist kindred clubs in introducing the sport into their districts. The Masterton Club has been generously treated by several'of its honorary members, and we have to thank Mr and Mrs Hugh Williams and Mr H. H.Beetham for forwarding evergreens and., decorations, : and Captain Truscott for loan of bunting at our opening night j' Messrs ,W. Cameron, W. B. Ohennells, R. G. Smith, A. P. Whatman, Ed••Williams

and Rupert Morrison for six silver championship cups; and Messrs F. G. Maunsell, W. Wardell, and A. R. Maltby for three gold medals. Our President (Mr Whatman) very kindly placed the Boxing Hall at the disposal of the Club, free of all rent, and we also have to thank him for further gifts in the shape of cork linoleum and a wrestling mattress. With regard to the financial state of the Club, the balance sheet shows a total receipt of £2ll 16s 6d, and an expenditure of £l9O 16s, thus leaving a balance of £2l 0s 6d inland. Our liabilities are nil, and we have apparatus etc., of an estimated value of £sl 7s 6d, after allowing for depreciation. The principal items of expense were: — Opening night, £7 lis 6d; second tourney, £34 5s 6d; third tourney, £24 16s M; alterations, etc., to Boxing Hall, £l3 15s 7d; cost of apparatus, £lB 6s sd; new ring appointments, £l2 Is. We have to express our thanks to the officers, instructor, honorary surgeons, honorary auditor, and those gentlemen who assisted us at the tournament and in the geneaal management of Club affairs, but we regret to report that our Patron, Mr A.
