A TOTARA RESERVE.
QUESTION OF RATES. At the Magistrate's Court in Eke~ tahuna yesterday, Mr Reid, S.M., reserved judgment in a case in which the Eketahuna County Council sued P. Quinlan and others for special rates alleged to be due on Crown sections in the Totara reserve at Nireaha. His Worship held that'under the Act, and also from a common-sense point of view, tlje sections having reverted to the Crown, and having been taken up again became liable for special rates struck over the area in which they existed, and he would consequently give judgment for plaintiffs. Costs amounting to £1 8s were allowed. Mr E. Page appeared for plaintiffs and Mr H. Smith for defendants.
