ANTONIA DOLORES. A contemporary thus comments: — j I An unalloyed delight was the song recital given by Mdlle. Dolores last j night to the Jargest audience which has assembled at the Opera House for a concert for a long tim-> past. And from beginning to end the and ience was appreciative and enthusiastic, seeking (and getting) encores ov:si ! after the very liberal brackets o> programmed songs which were enumerated in our columns yesterday, lv. this ! way the audience succeeded in scc:.r- ---| ing over and above the numboia alluded to, "The Lass with the Leiicate Air" (Arne), "JO Sanctissimi" . (Gov-.' .iligianii, ■ "In der ,-Marznacht'' ;, (Tail- | ney" (Balfe).' And what a wonderful prbgV&mme it all was .No,,other singer in the world that we know of-would, or could have given it. Mdlle. has gone right back to the beginning of things. to-the era of the Masters who evolved mere melody after the Gregorian age. We have all heard of Scarlatti tho Great. Who has heard him flr. would hear him but that Mdlle. carries him and other of the older Masters round the world with her, making her programme a musical chronology running down through Gluck and Handel to Schumann, and on to Ambroiso Thomas, and the very Moderns. There it all was —sung with the most exquisite artistry in a voice that was not only a perfect instrument, but an instrument that made true music in every note, and with an inspiring soul and sentiment that vitalised everything from the simple downright melodies of the old, old school, to the liquid cadences of Schumann or the magnificent collaratura of that tour de force "Ja Suis Titania" of the composer of Mignon, in which the trills and shakes and cadenzas were magnificently and easefully and melod-, ioiisly-produced. ' The box plan is at the usual place— Miss Rive's.
