STATE BRICK WORKS

CABLE^NEWS United Press Association — By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.

OPENED NEAR SYDNEY. (Received Last Night, 8.20 o'clock.) SYDNEY, April '2l. The Minister for Public Work: officially started the Government Brick Works at Home Bush Bay. In a speech he said that the Government's policy was to enable the people to obtain the things necessary for their welfare at reasonable rates. If the price of bricks in Sydney was not brought down within reasonable proportions, then the Government would go further than making tricks for its own use, and would undertake to supply the general public at a- reasonable price. The Government had the necessary respect for private enterprise, but when private enterprise became a public spoliation, then it was time for the Government to take care of the interests of the people despoiled. Preparations were being made to largely extend the plant in order to produce all the bricks required by the Government. The superintendent of the works stated that he was able to supply bricks at twenty shillings per thousand.
