AMUSEMENTS.

THE WANDERERS' MUSICAL CO? TUME COMEDY COMPANY.

OPENING IN MASTER TON" TO-

NIGHT.

The long-looked for visit of Mr Georgo Stephenson's new English at reaction, "The Wanderers' Musical Costume Comedy Company," will eventuate in the Town Hall to-night, when those who enjoy novel musical entertainments will have their taster gratified. The combination comprises quite a number of talented artists. The brilliant London society entertainer, Miss Phyllis Hopwood Foldi, whose monologue and pianoforte recitals have been the success of three continents, will be among the number. The whole entertainment is said to be of exceptional merit, comprising quartets, monologues, duets, instrumental solos, catchy music and fine costumes. The plan is at Miss Rive's, and intending patrons should book at once as the plan is rapidly filling. The Evening Post, Wellington, speaking of the company, says:—There first appearance on Saturday evening filled the hall to overflowing, and so numerous were the recalls that the programme had to be curtailed. The performance of the merry band of artists created a very favourable impression. . . . . The company is well-bal-anced, and they made such an excellent impression that they may look forward to a warm welcome from Dominion audiences. !

ANTONIA DOLORES

The Melbourne Argus, probably the most critical paper in Australasia, thus comments on Mdlle. Dolores' song . recital: —lf there had been any doubt as to the warm place which Mdlle Dolores has won in the hearts of the Melbourne people it could not have survived the enthusiastic welcome given by the large audience which assembled to hear her in the Town Hall; on Saturday evening. It was a longj time before it was possible for her to begin her first song, for her pleasant! genial smile as she again and again j bowed her acknowledgements, only J provoked still warmer plaudits. She has a wonderful way of establishing from the very outset, a sort of homely relation with her audience so that everyone settles down to enjoy himself and criticism blushes and resolves it-' self into applause. Though there is ' no reason why Mdlle Dolores should not challenge the critic to his worst, she can afford to lay aside the armour of her personal popularity and stand solely on her musical merit. Her voice is in no degree inferior to what is was on her last visit four years' ago; her programme is selected with the judgment and taste of an artist of catholic sympathies, and her intrepretations both from the intellectual and the emotional side are convincing beyond all argument. To say that the recital i was a success was to speak very mildly ; every number was encored including Mr Shrimplin's pianoforte solo:?. There was such an atmosphere of satisfaction and good humour, that encoring camo naturally. The box plan opens on Wednesday next.
