The Bill in favour of the reciprocity agreement between the United States and Canada has been adopted by the House of Representatives. The voting was as follows: — For the Bill 265 Against the Bill S9 Majority in favour 176 The majority of the Republicans voted against the Bill, as did also ten Democrats. The Republicans bitterly fought the measure," and strove to pass amendments. Finally the Republicans moved the farmers' free list, which the Democrats had pledged themselves to carry. This o proposal was defeated, the Democrats explaining that they would pass it when the free list was formerly before the House. Mr Underwood, the leader of the Democratic Party, declared that the free list would become law, or the President of the Senate which rejected it would never be heard from again. OTTAWA, April 22. The Liberals profess satisfaction at the progress of the Reciprocity Bill in Washington. The Conservative members have been obstructing the passage of the Bill with speeches of six hours' dura, tion.
