TIMARU ITEMS.

TIMARU, Last Night. The census returns for the Borough show the population to be 11,311, an increase of 3696 on the last census, but the area has been enlarged in the meantime. The Rev. J. Baumber, who has been unwell for a long time, underwent a serious operation to-day. He is doing well. Welcome rain has fallen, and has not yet ceased. Meetings have been held in several centres to prepare for the reception of the Irish envoys. For the triple polls in Timaru on Wednesday, all the ballot boxes in town have been obtained, and thirty have been borrowed from neighbouring districts.
