AMUSEMENTS.

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.

A packed house greeted the Change of programme at the Foresters' Hall last evening. The bill-of-fare -was an excellent one in every respect, and there was plenty of variety in the subjects screened. The star film was a stirring 1 military drama" entitled "Tommy Atkins," through which a powerful love story runs, and which contains all the elements that go to make a first-class picture. "In the Kentucky Mountains" is one of the best drama of its class presented to Masterton patrons. It deals with a page in the life history of a ''moonshiner" who' becomes fascinated with his wife's cousin. f His wife betrays him to the sheriff, and he is imprisoned, but subsequently becomes reconciled to his better half. "Nellie's "Farm" is a touching story dealing with the life of two slum children, and was followed with keen interest by the audience. "Chioggia," with its water-borne traffic, fish-curing, and other industries made an excellent scenic, while "Crossing the Equator" was another splendid picture. The capture of Arctic bear cubs gave the audience a capital idea of big game sport in the land of ice. A number of other first-rate scenic, dramatic, instructive, industrial, and comic studies were produced, all meeting with warm applause. The programme will be repeated this evening.
