The President (Mr B. Buttle) said that Capital and Labour iven at grips, struggling for supremacy. What war:, wanted was a solution of the difficulty. Ho did not think that was to be brought about by legislation, but onlv by coming to an understanding with v?,rh on a man-to-man basis. The Hen. Mr Carroll, replying to the toast of "Parliament," spoke of the necessity of Labour and Capital working in conjunction towards tho advancement of the -commercial welfare of the country. The present stato of affairs could not. go on.-for the head could not work without the rest of the anatomy. The Government bad tried to solve the labour problem" by legislation, but employers were on one.side and employees on the other. Neither were satisfied. He believed they would yet find imbued in all sections of the public a true sense of fair play. When they, arrived at that understanding the problem was solved.
