Mr Joseph Dawson, of the Wellington Land Board, was a visitor to Masterton yesterday. Mr G. A. Donovan, of Kopuaranga, is to bo tendered a farewell social by the settlers of the district this evening. Mi*s W. J. Jackson, of Masterton, together with her mother, Mrs Dorset, of Mauriceville, is spending a brief holiday at Gisborne.. Tho Rev. J. W. Burton, formerly of Masterton, who was recently appointed to the charge of the "Whiteley Memorial Methodist Church, at New Plymouth, was tendered a welcome last night. The death is announced by cable message from London of Colonel Wilder, ex-Conservator of Forests in Now Zealand. Mr Frank Feist was yesterday elected unopposed as Mayor of Carterton, in succession to Mr J. A. Dudson, who did not offer himself for re-election. Mr Feist has been for many years in business in Carterton,.prior to which he resided in Mastcvton.. Mr T. M. Wilford has been returned unopposed as Mayor of Wellington. Mr E. A. Ransom ba- been returned unopposed for Dannevirke, Mr J. W. MacEwan for Petone, and Mr E. Page for Eketahuna. Mr J. M. Coradine has been nominated for re-election as Mayor of Masterton by Messrs W. B, Chennells and J" H. Pauling. It is highly improbable that he will be opposed. Mr William Noble, for two years past has been Chief Clerk at the Masterton Railway Station, has been promoted to an important position at Thorndon Station, Wellington. During his residence in Masterton, Mr Noble has earned the esteem of very many people, and the fact that his exceptional capabilities and characteristic courtesy have won recognition from head-quarters will be learned with pleasure, tempared with regret at his departure. Mr Noble's successor will bo Mr'J. M. Wilson, of Lower Hutt.
