TRAGEDY AT WAKAPUAKA.
SETTLER SHOOTS HIMSELF.
News was received in Nelson on Saturday morning that Mr J. P. Livingstone, a well-known settler of Wakapnaka, had been found shot about a chain away" from his house. It appears that after breakfast Mr Livingstone went out to groom his horse, and a few minutes afterwards his eldest daughter went out and found her father lying on the ground in a- pool of blood, with a shot through the right temple, and a revolver in his right hand. The deed was committed at about 8.20, and the unfortunate man lingered until about 9.40 o'clock. Deceased, who leaves a widow and three children, was 46 years of age, and had lived at Wakapuaka for some years past. He had recently purchased a farm at the Lower Hutt, and was packing up on Friday last in preparation for departure. The deceased had not enjoyed good health, but there was nothing in his manner to indicate that he contemplated taking his life. Deceased was a member of the Nelson Defence Rifle Club, and took keen interest in shooting matters.
