THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
I At twelve o'clock to-day, nominations I will close for the nine seats on tire Masterton Borough Council. Up till last evening only two nominations had 'been received, and these from retiring Councillors. The reluctance of business men and others to accept their share of the civic responsibility is inexplicable. There are a score oir. more worthy citizens in our midst who have time at their disposal, and large interests in the town. These are content to look on and see others transact the work of local government. Their motto appears to be, "All care, but no responsibility." So long as this indifference lasts, the) Borough cannot be expected to make the permanent progress it should do." It is the duty of every man to bear his fair share of the burdens of citizenship.
