SCHOOL MUSEUM AND MINIATURE RIFLE RANGE.

OPENING ARRANGEMENTS

At the meeting of the Committee of the Ma&tertou District High School on Thursday evening, the Headmaster (Mr W. H. Jackson) •reported that the miniature rifle range was now ready for opening, and that the remaining work in the Museum would be completed in a week or ten days. Mr Jackson suggested that the official opening of the two institutions be fixed for either, Thursday, April 27th, or Thursday, May 4th. * The clearing of the specimens and cases had been a heavy task, but the remainder of the work could be completed in time for either of the opening days mentioned.

Th"e chairman (Mr R. Brown) said that iboth these institutions were a credit to the school and'district, and that the committee should do everything to make the opening arrange-, meats as complete as, possible. He suggested that they form a committee of all the members of the School Committee, together with the Headmaster, to make the necessary arrangements for the opening, and that the Acting Minister for Defence and the Minister for Education be asked to be present. This was agreed to, and it was decided to issue invitations to the Mayor and Councillors, Trust Lands Trustees", Managers of the Masterton Technical School, and representatives of other bodies, to be present. The opening date was arranged for Thursday, May 4th, subject to this date being convenient to the Ministers for Defence and Education.
