UNPOPULAR POLICEMAN.
SEQUEL TO AN T ASSAULT

A sen's ie« of throo months' imprisonment recently passed on a man nnmod Hodgson, on a ehargo of assaulting Hon thorn, an nnpnptiini member of Ihc police force, at Silsden, on tho Leeds and Liverpool Canal, 12 miles nortti-west of Bradford, Yorkshire. This led to a riot.
The police wero reinforced, and used their batons, dispersing the mob. Henthorn has now been transferred to another position. A petition has been presented to Mr Winston Churchill (Home Secretary), asking for an enquiry into tho conduct of the police; also demanding Hodgson's release.
