THE LAND TAX.

A resident of Nelson makes the very sensible proposal that the Land Tax Department be abolished, thus saving from £30,000 to £40,000 per annum, and that the valuation bo made by the local bodies, by whom the tax should be levied, and to whom it .should be paid. Some might levy id, some Id, and some Id, according to their requirements; all subsidies to be abolished. The effect would be, there would be no more log rolling in the House. Local politics would no longer be inflicted there, but better than all, the local bodies would secure an assured finance which they have always desired.
